Blackdown Support Group

Blackdown Support Group is a community charity dedicated to supporting people across the Blackdown Hills, helping them maintain their independence, wellbeing and connection to their local communities. Founded in 1991 through a partnership between the Blackdown Practice and local volunteers, the charity was established to provide practical and social support to residents while helping reduce pressure on local health and social care services.

Today, the charity supports people who may be elderly, isolated, living with long-term health conditions, experiencing financial difficulties, or facing challenges that make everyday life more difficult. Through a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, Blackdown Support Group provides a wide range of services including community transport, befriending, lunch clubs, coffee mornings, bereavement support, help with practical tasks, and assistance accessing essential services and appointments.

Covering over 140 square miles of rural communities across the Blackdown Hills, the charity plays a vital role in reducing loneliness and isolation while helping people remain active, independent, and connected. Their work ensures that local residents can access the support they need to improve their health, wellbeing, and quality of life, regardless of age or circumstance.
